3/16/20 UPDATE
This was a difficult assessment to make; however, campouts are viewed by the committee to be high-risk gatherings. We prepare food community style, sharing cooking equipment and utensils. It is difficult in a campout setting to establish washing stations that would allow folks to wash as frequently as would be recommended by CDC guidelines. The committee, was in agreement that there is too much risk for spread of infection, and feels it a responsible step to cancel this event until we have more insight as to how the outbreak might affect our community.
While we hated to take these measures, we felt that it is in line with what public health officials are recommending, and what we are seeing other organizations due to mitigate the spread of the virus.
Thank you for your understanding as we made these difficult decisions. We certainly hope that this all passes quickly and without a severe impact to our trail life family, our local community, our state and our Nation. Please keep in mind this important fact. No matter how ominous this situation appears from the media, our Lord and savior is not surprised by any of this. Even in the face of terrible events, he is in control and working all things for good for His Glory. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that he knows the plans he has for us, and they are plans for welfare and not for calamity, to give us future and hope. No matter the outcome, we know and pray that the Lord will be glorified through it all.
